Funnel Chart

A funnel chart visualizes the progressive reduction of data through sequential stages of a process, with the width of each section representing the quantity of a metric at that stage.

A Funnel Chart is a specialized visualization that demonstrates the stages of a process. Its shape—broad at the top and narrow at the bottom—reflects the progression and reduction of values through multiple steps. Funnel Charts are particularly useful for tracking how effectively a process is being followed and for identifying bottlenecks where drop-offs occur.

When to Use a Funnel Chart

Use a Funnel Chart when you want to:

  • Track sales conversions across pipeline stages.

  • Monitor workflow progression where each step reduces the number of items.

  • Identify bottlenecks in a multi-step process.

  • Visualize process efficiency in dashboards and executive reports.

Examples:

  • Evaluating the success of a promotional campaign.

  • Analyzing the recruitment funnel from applications to hires.

  • Monitoring website visitor behavior from the landing page to checkout.

Chart Properties

General Settings

  • Exclude Global Filter – Exclude this chart from global filters applied at the report level.

  • Show Data Label – Display data labels for funnel stages.

  • Show Legend – Display a legend to describe stages.

  • Show Percentage – Show percentage values alongside funnel stages.

Note: Currently, only Floating legend style is supported.

Series Color

  • Add Color – Assign or modify colors for funnel stages.

  • Precision – Define decimal precision for numeric or percentage values.

View Filter

  • Filter – Select conditions from the drop-down menu to restrict the dataset (e.g., show funnel by region or timeframe).

Insights

  • Text – Add annotations to describe findings. Highlight values with asterisks (e.g., 70%, High Drop-off).

  • Font Size – Set font size for insights text.

  • Font Color – Choose annotation text color.

  • Text Align – Align insight text: Left, Right, or Center.

  • Position – Place annotation at the Bottom or Right of the chart.

Best Practices

  • Use contrasting colors for funnel stages to improve visibility.

  • Keep funnel stages clear and limited for better interpretation.

  • Enable percentages to make stage-to-stage drop-offs easier to interpret.

  • Use Insights to highlight bottlenecks or critical success points in the funnel.
