Timeline Play
Timeline Play projects data over the selected time period to identify the trends and data changes.
The Timeline Play feature allows users to animate a saved View containing a time dimension, showing how data changes over time. This feature is particularly useful for analyzing trends, seasonality, and progressions in datasets where time is a key factor.
Steps to Use Timeline Play
Navigate to the final screen of a Report.
Select the View you want to analyze.
Click the Analyse icon.
The View opens in Analyse mode.
Click the Timeline Play icon.
Configure Timeline Play
In the Timeline Play window, fill in the required information:
Time Dimension – Select the time field (e.g., Date, Year).
Date Interval – Choose interval granularity (e.g., Daily, Monthly).
Date Type – Select the type of date values to use.
Start Date – Set the beginning date for playback.
End Date – Set the ending date for playback.
Time Delay – Define the delay between time intervals during playback.
Click the Start option to begin playback.
During Timeline Play
Data is displayed sequentially for each selected date/time value.
Example:
11th October 2017 → Data displayed for this date.
25th October 2017 → Data updates as timeline progresses.
After all time values are played, the Resume icon changes into a Replay icon.
Controls
Export (
) – Access export type panel to export data (CSV, XLSX, PDF, PPT, PNG, JPEG).Stop (
) – Pause the timeline playback.Resume (
) – Continue playback after stopping.Replay () – Restart playback after it finishes.
Close Timeline Play (
) – Exit the Timeline Play screen.
Best Practices
Use shorter intervals (daily/weekly) for granular analysis, and longer intervals (monthly/yearly) for high-level trends.
Combine Timeline Play with Export to capture snapshots of data evolution.
Use Replay for presentations to emphasize recurring patterns.
