Editing a Data Store Metadata
The Edit Data Store Metadata functionality allows users to make updates and changes to an existing Data Store Metadata record. These edits can include changes to field definitions, table mappings, and data types. This section walks through the process of editing the metadata for a specific data store, ensuring all updates are reflected in the platform's data dictionary.
Best Situations to Use
Use the Edit Data Store Metadata feature when you need to:
Modify the field definitions or data types within a data store.
Update metadata when new fields are added, fields are removed, or column names are changed in the mapped tables.
Reflect changes in the data model (e.g., adding new fields or adjusting existing ones).
Ensure that metadata is consistent with the changes in the underlying data store.
Not Recommended for:
Simple updates that do not affect the underlying data (in which case, adding synonyms or adjusting filters may be more appropriate).
Large changes that affect multiple metadata stores — in these cases, consider using bulk updates.

Editing the Data Type Definition Tab
When to Edit Data Type Definition
Users can edit the Data Store Metadata using the Data Type Definition tab if there have been changes in the mapped table. These changes include:
Addition of new fields: If new fields have been introduced in the mapped table, they will appear in the Data Type Definition section, highlighted for user attention.
Removal of fields: If a field has been removed from the database, it will be highlighted in the Data Type Definition section, allowing users to decide whether to include it or remove it from the metadata.
Column name changes: Modifications to column names will be highlighted in the Data Type Definition, prompting users to make the necessary changes.
Editing Process
If new fields are added, these will be displayed and highlighted in the Data Type Definition section.
For removed fields, the system will highlight the field and give users the option to either include it again or remove it entirely.
Column name changes will be highlighted for user acknowledgment and adjustment.
Important Notes
If any of these changes occur in the mapped table, the related field(s) will be highlighted in the Data Type Definition section for review.
Once the newly mapped or deleted field is updated in the Data Store Metadata, users will no longer be able to change the data type of the affected field(s).
If a field is deleted, it can only be re-enabled for editing in the Data Type Definition section if it no longer exists in the mapped table.
Completing the Edit
After making the necessary changes in the Data Type Definition, ensure that all required information is updated across the tabs.
Click Finish to save the updates.
The Finish option is located in the Data Restriction tab of the Data Store Metadata.
Example Use Case
Scenario: A new field, “Total Revenue,” is added to a database table, and the Data Store Metadata needs to reflect this addition.
Action: The user navigates to the Data Type Definition tab, finds the new field, and adds it to the metadata. If a field is removed, the user can decide whether to keep or delete it from the metadata.
