Creating a New Data Store Metadata

This guide explains how to create a Data Store Metadata, both by mapping to an existing collection and without mapping to a collection, in the Data Center module.

Creating a Data Store Metadata by Mapping to an Existing Collection

  • Open the Data Center module

    • Navigate to Data Center > My Connectors > Create > Data Store Metadata.

    • Click the Data Store Metadata option from the Create+ context menu.

  • Create a Data Store Metadata

    • Data Store Name: Provide a name for the new Data Store Meta Data.

    • Description: Optionally describe the Data Store Meta Data.

  • Map to an existing Collection

    • From the drop-down, select a Collection (if needed).

    • The Data Store Meta Data will now display the fields from the chosen Collection.

  • Next Step: Data Type Definition

    • You can interchange fields between Dimensions, Measures, and Time using the available options:

      • Move to Dimensions

      • Move to Measures

      • Move to Time

    • Mark Dimensions with a check mark to make them available in the List of Values (LOV) filter for reports.

  • Define Hierarchy

    • Click Add to create a new Drill Def box.

    • Drag and drop the appropriate Dimension or Time fields to define the hierarchy (e.g., Year > Month > Date).

    • Click Next to proceed.

  • Data Restrictions

    • Add a filter using User Property to control which users or groups can access the data in the Data Store.

    • Click Next to proceed.

  • Schedule Data Refresh (Optional)

    • If needed, enable the Scheduler for regular updates (Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Yearly).

    • Click Finish to complete the Data Store Meta Data creation.

Creating a Data Store Metadata without Mapping to an Existing Collection

  • Open the Data Center module

    • Navigate to Data Center > My Connectors > Create > Data Store Metadata.

  • Enter Meta Data details

    • Data Store Name: Enter the name of the Data Store Meta Data.

    • Do not select a Collection Name from the drop-down (this will create a blank schema with no pre-existing data).

  • Next Step: Data Type Definition

    • Manually define the fields (Dimensions, Measures, and Time).

    • You can add fields by using the Add icon to insert Dimension, Measure, and Time categories.

  • Define Hierarchy

    • Click Add to create a new Drill Def box.

    • Drag and drop Dimension or Time fields to create a hierarchical structure (e.g., Year > Month > Date).

    • Click Next to proceed.

  • Data Restrictions

    • Add User Property filters to define access restrictions.

    • Click Next.

  • Schedule Data Refresh (Optional)

    • Enable a refresh schedule for the Data Store.

    • Click Finish to create the Data Store Meta Data.

Notes:

  • For Data Stores based on collections: The fields and categories (Dimensions, Measures, Time) are automatically populated from the selected Collection.

  • For custom Data Stores (without collection): You must define fields manually and use a Data Pipeline to populate the store with actual data.

  • The Database (DB) for creating and writing the Data Store is always based on the settings configured by the admin in the Admin section.

  • Predefined collections help speed up the creation of Data Store Meta Data, ensuring field consistency.

  • For custom Data Stores, make sure the schema is defined clearly before creating a Data Store so that it integrates well with other modules like Data Preparation and the Report Module.

Troubleshooting

  • No Data Store visible after creation: Ensure the Data Store is saved properly; check your role permissions to confirm you have access to the Data Store.

  • No data in custom Data Stores: Use a Data Pipeline to insert data or manually add entries in the database before attempting to create a Story from the Data Store Metadata.
