Our Pricing Philosophy(In Practice)

Start Small, Build Trust & Scale

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. We realize that the selection of an enterprise data platform involves a time-consuming and complex evaluation, overwhelming for many decision-makers, and the direct and indirect risks associated with a decision are high. To simplify and de-risk the process for enterprise stakeholders, BDB recommends a small start with the following phased approach:

Proof of Concept (POC)

  • BDB implements a basic end-to-end flow for the customer based on the analytics use case of their choice. The goal of this phase is to demonstrate the ease of enabling analytics with the platform, overall platform capability and ease of use, and fit in each unique enterprise environment. Details on the POC approach can be found in our Pre-Sales documentation

  • The economics associated with this phase are typically minimal, primarily done to cover some efforts.

  • There are no License Charges in this phase.

Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

  • Once a customer has validated outcomes from a ring-fenced and time-bound POC exercise, and feels confident about the ease of use, they are typically at a lot more ease to build a more thorough MVP - with a bigger scope and complexity of use cases, using the BDB platform.

  • The economics at the MVP stage involves a license for a basic White Label Platform with a minimum of 24 Cores for data processing (worker nodes) -OR- a 100-user White label box. The above nodes may be purposed for Dev / QA / UAT / Production based on the customer’s preference.

Production

  • A satisfied customer with a successful MVP implementation would typically want to commercialize its analytics use cases leveraging the BDB platform, in some phased fashion.

  • Once in Production, the customers can increase the number of Licenses for data processing and/or users, to support wider organizational usage, increasing number and complexity of analytics use cases (please see BDB’s Licensing details)

Value Oriented

A guiding principle at BDB from the very start has been to offer value to customers at all stages. Our pricing therefore is always:

BDB’s pricing is based on the following diagram, where we charge based on the CORES used by the Kubernetes Worker Nodes (WN) required to Process the Operations of the Data Pipeline, Data Science Lab, Data as API, Model as API, Data Preparation and Data Virtualization. Our Pricing sheet gives detailed information on this but here is a small example to understand the 3 points listed above.

Measurable

Suppose we process simple data with little validation (like Telecom data) from 24 Core WN, then BDB can process 1.7 TB of data per day. But if we do multiple validations in this data then the similar 1.7 TB data might take 36 or 40 Cores to process. We charge on these cores. It comes with some free Visualization users but more users can be added as per the user-based (Named User) licensing policy.

These Cores are predictable & measurable as we know what kind of processing is possible, and with Intelligent Scaling available with BDB, one can control the total cost of Processing data.

Thoughtful

In an environment where pricing for most popular data platforms is such that it eats away at business profits, BDB is thoughtful about customers' profits and stitches its pricing around that.

How our architecture team decides on Sizing, Data processing, and Usage of Cloud Vs On-Premises resources makes it easy to significantly optimize overall costs of operation.

For heavy users and organizations which are using BDB as an integral part of their business, BDB offers volume discounts to further drive value to such customers. To illustrate with an example - for 250,000+ Viewers, we have seen BDB.ai's end-to-end analytics platform offering was less costly than just the Viewer license of a leading Visualization tool.

The above put together makes it quite palatable for enterprises to consider BDB as a data platform of choice, rather than building their ground up, which is often a very costly and time-consuming endeavor.

Please see our Build Vs Buy white paper in the Pre-Sales section.

For smaller businesses, which may not need an enterprise solution or businesses primarily on the cloud, one can try BDB’s hosted offering for as low as $100 per month per user with little charges for Data Processing (10 Cents for 1 GB data Processing) & applicable Service Efforts. They can increase their usage as it starts giving them value.

Competitive

  • BDB cherishes this word, and we are competitive to the extent that we claim to be the most competitive in the world for any deal that uses our platform completely (end-to-end features) with at least 100 users or a few TBs of data processing daily.

  • How BDB can claim its lowest pricing.

    • BDB can process the data, and algorithms inside its platform & our data processing charges are the lowest in Industry.

    • Due to its Unified nature, one doesn’t need multiple licenses.

    • The flexibility of Pricing Methodology with the customer – Data Processing + Visualization Viewers OR Named user-based licensing.

  • BDB Charges are based on the CPUs used in data processing and not on the number of records being processed. BDB pricing doesn’t have any surprise elements or gotchas when the customer solution scales.

Consumption Based

BDB Data Pipeline module can give the details of consumption (Worker Nodes). Customers can not only compare this with other platforms but can also optimize their use of the cores with

  • Right Sizing and Deployment Principles

  • Using the Intelligent Scaling feature provided in the BDB Platform

Additionally, volume discounts are offered to make it more palatable for customers to scale their data operations with BDB.

Transparency

  • Cleanly defined cost heads as per the details are given in the components section) - license, premium services, ongoing support

  • Easy to measure and manage

  • A clear policy on upgrades for a customer

    • Minor Releases or Patches as per the needs or Support

    • Medium releases in 6 months with a new set of features

    • Major upgrade every year that enhances the overall functionality

  • Ability to handle all kinds of Data Lakes to give flexibility to customers to use like

    • SQL-based Click house, MySQL – Minimal Cost

    • NoSQL-based Mongo – Open Source and Paid Version

    • Other paid Data Lake Solutions – from S3, Azure, and GCP to Structured ones like Oracle, SQL Server, etc.
