Is BDB a cheap Product? How come TCO is coming so low?

BDB is a unified platform that is licensed in the Mid Segment

  • Its Deployment Architecture & Sizing exercise is taken by the best Platform architects. While others will charge heavily, BDB is just giving such consultancy free of cost to build a customer base. Our Sizing ensures customers are spending optimally.

  • BDB’s core execution team is based in India that gives competitive Service/Consultancy rates.

  • BDB works on the simple principle of helping customers grow and doesn’t look for a share. Therefore, it leaves max on the table for customers and just charges for its platform and services.

  • BDB Platform is priced High for small contracts, Medium for medium-sized contracts, and overall Low for high-volume contracts.

  • Due to the Unified platform, there are at least 40-50% of tools/services that are not charged (come in the form of end-to-end licenses) that other Platforms will be charging.

  • While other companies and platforms will keep surprising customers with different kinds of charges, BDB has simple pricing.

Your license Cost seems High. You claim your TCO is lower than others. What is your ROI?

If your database is excel or simple SQL Server & you have unlimited users of Power BI then BDB License will look high to you. We don’t suggest that one should use BDB just for visualization where the data sources are only structured and that too excel. In such case, one has to compare with our Visualization costing. Our TCO is certainly lower & ROI is based on your business and the kind of business strategy behind it. We have given returns of 20x in the 3 years, but we will still give the credit to the Business Strategy of such customers. For details, please read our Price methodology Document. If your use case is small and you are looking for basic analytics, then the BDB Platform may not be a fit product for you. If you are looking for complex, end-to-end, Volume based use cases, BDB is the right fit.

Will BDB survive the intense competition with Global Players? Do you think just by having a low cost you can survive this intense competition especially when you don't have any big investors?

BDB has a founder with 22 years of background in the BI Platform. Our core team (at least 40 people) understands BI in depth and has been groomed with platform engineering which has evolved and delivered in the Big Data use cases of multiple domains. BDB has an edge in building the analytics platform by the same team that is truly integrated. We were the first ones to talk about end-to-end platform. BDB is built at a much lower cost than any other platform. New feature development on this platform is comparatively faster and easier. We have even survived when the competition has given the new features free of cost to customers to attract them.

BDB is not a cheap product, it is an econometrics-based platform that is suited for enterprise use cases when they want to build their own Data-Analytics platform.

BDB has avoided Investors in the initial 8 years as we wanted to complete the build and validation phase ourselves. Now, since we move to the adoption phase, we will get open for Investments. But we are a profitable company with a strong business pipeline. We get many CIOs' attention just by references. Our customers have learned CXO layers and believe only in performance and delivery.

What is your Service Cost? Why do you recommend us to SIs since your services are lower than Sis?

Our Services costs are 20-25% lower than most Indian SI’s. We have a few partners for long-term implementations and groomed their technical teams.

We train our end customers’ technical teams as well so that they can build their analytics teams. An easy-to-learn, well-white-labeled, low-code platform is the demand of enterprises.

There are multiple substantial use cases where BDB has handed over the deployment completely to the end customers, and they are just paying for licenses now. We suggest SI’s to those customers who are apprehensive about using BDB teams for deployments.

Can I use your platform for Solution Building? What will be the TCO in such cases?

BDB encourages Customers, Partners, and Individuals to build their Solutions using the BDB Platform due to following reasons:

  • One can white label the BDB Platform with its branding.

  • BDB is flexible on licensing prices as per the packaging of your solution pricing.

  • The BDB team helps in building solutions for you (technically) at a faster rate and with controlled pricing. BDB also trains your technical people at a nominal cost and certifies them.

  • At the time of building the solution, BDB charges a nominal amount for licenses that reduces your risk

TCO in such cases shall be the lowest. BDB also helps in sizing & building the optimized solution in terms of server usage, cost of data lake, etc.

Due to regular upgradation of the platform, a solution provider can be ensured that they will not be left behind in the technology space.

What kind of contracts BDB doesn't want to get involved in (question of a partner manager of a large SIs)?

At the current stage of the organization (till 2024) BDB wants to avoid:

  • Contracts that are Political in nature. We avoid RFPs where there is strong bureaucracy in the regions or nations, where they create RFPs just for the show while giving the contracts on some other undefined parameters.

  • Where only Visualization is required on a single data set – in that case continue to use your existing products.

  • Where the customer is uncertain of what they want to build as analytics use case & are just in the exploring phase.

  • Where Partners want to build the base Use case on BDB & at the time of contracts move them to other well-known products. Such use cases are detrimental for everyone since partners are not able to build analytics at the speed of BDB and they will eventually lose the confidence of the Customer. Many such cases have been seen in the past. Many technical people do not understand the importance of the platform and they at times start a custom solution. They are never able to achieve what customer is looking for.

There is too much convincing required if I want to use the BDB Platform vis-a-vis established Platform. How to deal with that? (Question from SI Partners)

There are 2 parts to it. Are you selling the BDB Platform, or you are selling a white-labelled product on the BDB platform by calling it XYZ Platform?

  • Challenges in the case of XYZ platform are multi-fold as Customers will doubt if a company like yours can write such a Data Analytics Platform. They will ask what kind of people with what background has written this platform.

  • Your team needs to have the capability of knowing the capability of almost all well-known platforms of the world

Selling as BDB Platform –

  • We feel that it will still be a challenge to sell the BDB platform till the end of 2025 (version 10) as BDB won’t be a well-known platform.

  • By version 10, the platform will be much smoother than most platforms can’t compare in terms of the Features and Implementation Use cases.

  • You need to have very strong people doing the selling of the BDB platform who understands the technology completely.

  • Most of the selling will be done by doing a POC/MVP. BDB’s success lies in doing the Complex POCs as that helps customers that BDB is certainly the top 5 Data-Analytics platform of the world with pricing that none can compete.

  • BDB will raise enough to have its sales presence in most countries in the coming 5 years.

What will happen if current BDB founders sell the company suddenly? Will the current pricing be applied?
  • BDB will be raising funds to increase its reach in terms of Sales and building a few solutions for faster implementations.

  • BDB is not planning to sell the company suddenly to someone and put all its partners and customers at crossroads.

  • BDB has 40 core employees who are groomed in BI to play a larger role in the years to come.

  • All contracts are signed with a few years of timelines like 3 years or 5 years and the contractual pricing will be respected.

What will happen in case BDB gets investments? Will this pricing be applicable?

BDB getting Investments doesn’t have anything to do with Pricing.

The BDB platform is always evolving, and we logically increase its pricing every 3 years. Generally, we sign agreements for 3 years unless the customer asks for 1 year or 5 years. Price re-vision is applicable with any product in the world once the terms are completed. BDB is committed to giving the lowest TCO for analytics implementations.

Why don't you give all the features in the 10 Users Introductory platform License?

BDB follows different kinds of pricing packages for every type of customer.

We have the following 3 core packages:

  • Data Wrangling – Data Pipeline, Data Quality, DataOps

  • Data Science – DS Lab, MLOps

  • Data Visualization

Customers can buy these packages in any permutation and combination. Data Wrangling is recommended package by us.

In case the customer has less data volume and data variety is not much and the solution they want to build is for a smaller set of users then BDB comes with a cost-effective package where a lot of features on the data wrangling side like Data Hub etc. are not provided.
