Right side Menu Panel
This page introduces all the options available on the right-side menu of the Dashboard Canvas.
Connection Page
The Connection Page allows you to establish data connections that can be used to build dashboards in the Designer. By accessing the supported connectors, you can link to a wide range of data sources.
Steps to access the Connection Page
Navigate to the Dashboard Canvas.
Click the Data Connectors (
)icon from the right-side panel.
Data Connectors Page
The Data Connectors page lists the available data sources you can connect to. Once connected, these sources can be used in charts, filters, and other components within your dashboard.
For details on how to configure and use each connector, refer to the topics under the Dashboard Connections section.
Component Library
The Component Library provides a catalog of charting and layout components you can use to build dashboards on the Designer canvas.
Open the Component Library
Navigate to the Dashboard canvas.
Click the Component Library icon in the right-side panel.
Use components from the library
In the Component Library panel, browse or search for a component.
Drag the component onto the canvas.
With the component selected, configure its Data, Appearance, and Interaction properties in the right-side settings.
Click Preview to validate the result; click Save when satisfied.
What’s in the library
The library includes a wide range of components commonly grouped as:
Charts: Bar, Line, Area, Pie/Donut, Scatter, Bubble, Combo, Funnel, Radar, KPI Tile, etc.
Advanced Visuals: Heatmap, Treemap, Box Plot, Waterfall, Histogram, Sankey, etc.
Grids: Data Grid, Paging Grid, Data Sheet, Scorecard, Pivot Grid
Filters: Checkbox, Combobox, Hierarchical Combobox, List, Radio Button
Other: Box, Bullet, Date Picker, Export, Gauge, Filter Saver, etc.
Custom: Custom, D3 charts components
Best practices
Start with data: Connect your data source before placing charts to enable immediate binding.
Pick the right visual: Use the Charts Gallery guidance to match chart types to analysis goals.
Keep it consistent: Reuse styles (colors, borders, typography) for a cohesive look.
Validate interactions: Test selections, tooltips, and drill behaviors in Preview before saving.
Manage Dashboard Components
Use the Manage Window to view and control all dashboard objects (every component on the canvas is an object). From here, you can quickly select, show/hide, lock/unlock, and reorder components to fine-tune your dashboard layout.
Open the Manage Window
Navigate to the Dashboard canvas.
Click the Manage Dashboard Components icon on the right-side panel.
Script Window
Use the Script Window to add custom logic and interactions to your dashboards. This capability lets you define variables, wire component events, and reference data connections—enabling governed, interactive experiences beyond drag-and-drop design.
Prerequisites:
Basic scripting knowledge is recommended to use Component Variables and Script effectively.
Ensure your dashboard has at least one component and (optionally) a configured data connection.
Open the Script Window
Navigate to the Dashboard canvas.
Click the Component Variables and Script icon in the right-side panel.
Guided Tour
The Guided Tour is an in-product walkthrough that highlights the major options on the Designer Canvas and explains what each control does—ideal for first-time users or quick refreshers.
Start the Guided Tour
Open the Designer Canvas.
Click the Guided Tour icon in the right-side panel.
Navigate the tour
Next — Move to the next highlighted option.
Prev — Go back to the previous step.
End tour — Close the tour at any time.
Each step positions a dialog next to a key area of the page (for example, menus and icons on the Designer Canvas) with a short description of its purpose.
Contextual behavior
When a tour step references the Dashboards area, selecting it opens the Dashboard Canvas for the chosen dashboard and continues the tour from there.
The tour progresses across the Designer’s key features to help you understand where to start and how to proceed.
