Steps Tab

The Steps Tab tracks and manages all applied transformations in the Data Preparation workspace, ensuring reproducible and controlled data workflows.

The Steps Tab in the Data Preparation workspace provides a detailed view of all transformations applied to a dataset. It enables users to track, edit, copy, paste, and delete transformations, allowing better management and reproducibility of data preparation workflows.

This tab ensures transparency and control over the sequence of transformations applied to datasets, improving efficiency and collaboration.

Best Situations to Use

Use the Steps Tab when you want to:

  • Track the sequence of transformations applied to a dataset.

  • Edit or reapply specific transformations to correct or adjust data preparation steps.

  • Copy transformation sequences from one dataset to another to maintain consistency.

  • Delete unnecessary or incorrect transformation steps without affecting other applied steps.

Not Recommended for:

  • Large-scale automated transformations where manual step review is not feasible (use Auto Prep or batch processing instead).

Viewing and Editing Transformations

  1. Navigate to the Steps Tab in the Data Preparation workspace.

  2. All performed transforms are listed chronologically, along with a count of steps.

  3. Click on any listed transform to edit or update the transformation settings.

Copying and Pasting Transformation Steps

Copying Steps

  1. Perform transformations on a dataset or open a Data Preparation containing transforms.

  2. Open the Steps Tab.

  3. Click the Copy icon to copy the selected set of transformations.

Pasting Steps

  1. Select the same data source used to create the copied steps.

  2. Open the Data Preparation workspace and click Create Preparation if redirected to the Preparation List page.

  3. Navigate to the Steps Tab in the newly created preparation.

  4. Click the Paste icon.

  5. All copied transformation steps will be applied to the selected data source.

  6. Validate that all steps have been applied correctly.

  7. Optionally, provide a new name for the preparation.

  8. Click Save to store the preparation with the applied steps.

  9. A notification message confirms that the Data Preparation has been successfully saved.

Deleting Transformation Steps

  1. Navigate to the Steps Tab containing the applied steps.

  2. Click the Delete icon for a listed transformation step.

  3. The selected step is removed, and a notification message confirms the deletion.

Notes:

  • The Steps Tab ensures reproducibility of data preparation workflows.

  • Copying and pasting steps is useful for standardizing transformations across multiple datasets.

  • Deleting steps should be done carefully to avoid removing critical transformations.

  • Always validate the dataset after pasting steps to ensure the correct application of transformations.
