Data Label

Configure Data Label settings to display or hide values on charting components in the Designer.

The Data Label settings in the Dashboard Designer give you precise control over the visibility and appearance of the actual data values plotted on your charts.

This configuration block allows you to choose whether to display or hide the numeric or categorical values directly on the component (e.g., placing the sales figure at the end of a bar or on a pie slice). Beyond simple toggling, you can often define the position of the label (inside, outside, center), customize the format (adding currency symbols, limiting decimal places), and even set conditions for when the label should appear (e.g., only show values for the top 5 categories). By carefully managing Data Labels, you can reduce clutter on complex charts while ensuring key metrics are immediately readable, thus balancing visual clarity with data precision.

Show Data Label

  1. Drag and drop a chart component (e.g., Column chart) onto the canvas.

  2. Associate Category and Series fields with the chart.

  3. In the Series section, select the field whose labels you want to show.

  4. Open the Properties of the selected series field.

  5. Click the Data label icon.

  6. In the Data Label Properties dialog, enable Show Data Label.

  7. Click Save.

Hiding Data Label

Hide labels for specific values from Dataset Properties → Data Label.

  1. Open the Dataset Properties for the component.

  2. Access the Data Label properties fields.

  3. Enable the Hide Data Label field.

  4. Provide a specific value for which the Data Label should be hidden.

  5. Click Save.

Result: The Data Label gets hidden for the selected value in the chart preview. Example: No Data Label appears for the column displaying 2500.

Note & Tips:

  • The Hide Data Label field has been provided to hide the data label when the values are not needed to be shown (e.g., value 2 is hidden in the given walk-through).

  • Apply the Show Data label per series field to control exactly which measures display labels.

  • Use Hide Data Label for outliers or non-meaningful values to keep visuals clean.

  • After changes, use Preview to verify placement and readability across bars/columns.

Troubleshooting

  • Labels not visible: Ensure the Show Data label is enabled for the intended series field.

  • Wrong value hidden: Recheck the exact value entered in Hide Data Label (including number format).

  • Overlapping labels: Consider hiding labels for crowded values or reducing the number of series/categories.
