Viewer Role

It is the default user role for all the new users until they are added to any user groups with required permissions to use the platform modules.

Accessing Platform using a Default User Account

Creating a Default User

  • Navigate to the Security module.

  • Click the New menu option.

  • Select the User option from the New Context menu.

  • Access the New User page.

  • Provide the required information to create a new user.

  • Do not assign this user to any group.

  • Click the Create option.

Please Note:

  • Skip the Add to Group part for this user.

  • Provide the Custom Fields details for the new user (If only marked as mandatory).

  • A confirmation message appears.

  • The user gets created and added to the list of users (By default, the newly created user will appear at the top of the list).

  • You may select the Viewer Role user group from the User Groups list.

  • The newly created viewer role user will be listed under the default user group, Viewer Role.

Accessing the Platform using the Default User Credentials

  • Navigate to the Sign In page of the BDB platform.

  • Use the default viewer role user's email ID to access the Platform.

  • Click the Continue option.

  • After entering your registered email ID, you will be prompted to provide your tenant space and password for the default Viewer role user.

  • Click Sign In to proceed.

Please note: The Authorization Type drop-down defaults to Enterprise. If the user belongs to a different authorization type, select the appropriate option from the drop-down.

  • You will be redirected to the platform homepage.

    • The left-side menu will display icons for Home, Catalog, and Reports modules.

    • The Home and Reports modules will be also accessible through the Apps menu.

Default Viewer Role Behavior

  • Users with the default viewer role can access the Data Catalog module to view metadata, but cannot access actual data assets without Data Center permissions.

  • All users created via the Security module are automatically assigned the viewer role if they are not assigned to a group with module access permissions.

  • By default, such users are restricted from accessing all platform modules except Reports until they are added to a user group with additional permissions.

Creating a Report using the Default Viewer Role User

A default viewer role user can create reports based on the uploaded files' data stores. The user may upload a CSV file or an Excel file to proceed with the report creation.

Until a data store is created by uploading a CSV/ Excel file by this user, no data store will be listed under the existing data store section.

  • Click the Reports option.

  • The Create New Report drawer opens.

  • Provide a Name for the Report.

  • Provide a Description for the report.

  • Click either of the options to upload a CSV or an Excel file.

  • After selecting an upload file option, there will be a field to configure the Data Store Name.

  • Click the Choose File option.

  • Select a file from the system and upload it.

  • A notification message appears to ensure about the completion of the successful file upload.

  • Click the Create Report option.

  • Another notification appears to inform about the data store creation process and the notification status message.

  • A report gets created, and you will be redirected to the Report design page.

  • Drag-and-drop the required dimensions and measures to generate a quick chart based on their values.

  • Click the Save View option.

  • The final screen for the Reports module will be launched, displaying a notification message to ensure that the last View created by the user is created and stored.

  • Click the Save option from this screen to save the updates for the report.
