Guided Tour
The Guided Tour component is used to create an interactive walkthrough of a dashboard. It highlights and explains individual components step by step, helping users understand what each element represents and how to navigate the dashboard effectively.
Users can move from one component to another following predefined steps. At any point, the tour can be ended by clicking the End Tour option.
Guided Tours improve onboarding, training, and user adoption by making dashboards self-explanatory.
Best Situations to Use
Use Guided Tour when you want to:
Provide onboarding for new users exploring a dashboard.
Explain the purpose of components (charts, filters, KPIs) directly in context.
Walk through a step-by-step data story or report narrative.
Reduce dependency on external training or documentation.
Not Recommended for:
Dashboards with only a few components where self-discovery is simple.
Use cases requiring detailed written documentation outside the dashboard.
Properties
Background
Shadow: Enable or disable a shadow effect.
Shadow Color: Choose a shadow color.
Shadow Transparency: Adjust the shadow opacity level.
General
Component Name: Assign a unique identifier for the Guided Tour.
Left / Top: Set placement of the Guided Tour component.
Height / Width: Define the component’s size.
Initial Visibility: If unchecked, the Guided Tour will not appear on first preview.
Associate Tour: Link the Guided Tour with dashboard components.
Search and select components to be included in the tour.
Define Title and Content for each tour step.
Set Tour Position (relative to the highlighted component).
Configure Duration for auto-advance timing.
Tour Type
Text Tour: Displays text instructions inside a styled box.
Image Tour: Displays an uploaded image instead of text. The tour begins once the image is uploaded and clicked.
Style
Font Family: Choose a consistent typeface.
Font Size: Adjust text size for readability.
Font Color: Customize text color.
Text Box Styling: Apply additional formatting to improve visibility.
Example Workflow
Drag and drop the Guided Tour component onto the dashboard.
Open General Properties and navigate to Associate Tour.
Search for available components to include in the tour.
For each step:
Add a Title.
Enter explanatory Content.
Choose Tour Position (top, bottom, left, right).
Set Duration if auto-advance is required.
Click Add to List to register the step.
Save changes and preview the dashboard.
Start the tour to highlight components step by step.
End the tour anytime using the End Tour option.
Notes
Guided Tours are most effective when kept short and focused (5–7 steps).
Use Image Tour mode for highly visual explanations (e.g., annotated screenshots).
Ensure consistent styling of tour text boxes to align with dashboard branding.
Tours can be reused for training, demos, and executive reviews.
