Creating a New Data Store

Create Data Stores from any supported Data Connector to materialize report-ready data for the Report Module and other consumers.

Where can you start

Navigation Path: Data Center > My Connectors > Standard Connectors > Options for a Data Connector > Create Data Store

Steps

  1. Navigate to the My Connectors under the Data Center.

  2. Select the Data Connector from the Standard Connectors list.

  3. Click the Options icon to open a context menu for the selected data connector.

  4. Click the Create Data Store option from the context menu.

  5. You will be redirected to the Create page for a new Data Store.

Create page (stages)

On the Create Data Store page, you will see either 6 steps (if Scheduler is enabled) or 5 stages (if Scheduler is not enabled).

Enable Scheduler (optional)

  • Use the Enable Scheduler checkbox.

  • If enabled, the Create page shows 6 steps; otherwise, 5 stages.

Stages/Steps

  1. Getting Data

    • Choose source connection, scope (schema/table/query), and any required parameters.

  2. Data Type Definition

    • Review/adjust column data types and formats to ensure downstream compatibility.

  3. Hierarchy Definition

    • Define hierarchical relationships (e.g., parent/child, drill levels) for reporting.

  4. Batch Query

    • Configure the batch extraction logic (initial/full vs incremental), including SQL or connector-specific settings.

  5. Data Restrictions

    • Apply row/column restrictions to control visibility and enforce governance.

  6. Schedule Data Refresh (visible only when Scheduler is enabled)

    • Set refresh frequency, window, and retry behavior for automated loads.

Note: The above-mentioned sequence appears on the Create page for a new Data Store with Scheduler Refresh (when Scheduler is enabled).

Supported creation types

  • Data Store using an RDBMS Data Connector

  • Data Store using an API Data Connector

Note: The Schedule Data Refresh step appears only if Enable Scheduler is selected in Getting Data. This step will not be displayed for Data Stores based on Flat File data connectors or Data Stores created from uploaded CSV/Excel files.

Result

  • Click Save/Finish (as prompted) to complete the flow.

  • A success message confirms creation.

  • The new Data Store appears on the Data Store List page.

Special case: Data Stores from uploaded CSV/Excel

Data Stores created by uploading a CSV/Excel file are shown in the Data Store List, but they do not support the following actions (these options will be disabled):

  • View/Edit

  • Refresh Data

  • Latest Schedule Status

  • Share Data Store

  • Push to VCS

  • Pull from VCS

  • Visualize

However, you can:

  • Add Synonyms to these Data Stores

  • Delete them from the Data Store List

Notes:

  • The Schedule Data Refresh step appears only when Enable Scheduler is turned on in Getting Data.

  • For Flat File connectors and uploaded files, scheduling is not available.

  • Use RDBMS/API-based Data Stores for robust refresh, governance, and downstream action support.
